Caitlyn Jenner's recent statements regarding transgender girls in sports have understandably incited the ire of the trans community.
During an interview with Fox News about her decision to run for governor of California as a Republican, Jenner talked about her idea for a solution to the issue of transgender girls participating in school sports. Her idea is to create a government commission to judge the worthiness of trans girls.
Jenner told Fox News:
"What I would do as governor, I would put together a commission."
"And trans women, who are truly trans, who at a very young age, you know, started proper medical treatment, they've grown up as girls, of course, they should be able to compete in girls' sports."
She went on to refer to trans girls who have not medically transitioned as "guys."
"But some guy who hasn't done any therapy, who hasn't done anything, there has to be a review board."
This contradicted an earlier statement from Jenner where she expressed she thought it "isn't fair" for trans girls to compete in girls' sports at all.
A few weeks ago, she told TMZ:
"This is a question of fairness. That's why I oppose biological boys competing in girls' sports in school."
"It just isn't fair. And we have to protect girls' sports in our schools."
Many took to Twitter to express their extreme disappointment with Jenner's latest comments.
Some pointed out the fact Jenner would not pass her own standards test, given she transitioned as an adult.
Unfortunately, it seems the cringey statements didn't stop with her plans for a commission to judge the worthiness of trans kids, as her Tweet from Thursday shows.
The reaction to her assertion she will "CANCEL, [sic] cancel culture, and wake up the woke" was immediate and derisive.
Jenner is continuing to try to woo the Republican vote, all the while alienating her fellow trans people and those who care about equality.
It remains to be seen how this will work for her, but it doesn't seem like a very effective campaign strategy so far.
