Ivanka Trump faced heavy criticism this week after people noticed that she recently altered her Twitter bio to remove a section about her focus on "the education and empowerment of women and girls."
She opted instead to replace it with her new focus on "job creation + economic empowerment, workforce development & entrepreneurship."
At first, the change, which happened shortly after the New Year, seemed to slip a bit under the radar, as more of the focus was on the fact that the First Daughter had changed her location to Washington, D.C., signaling that she and husband Jared Kushner planned on sticking around the White House for at least a little while longer in their roles as advisers to the president.
But things took a turn when some eagle-eyed social media users noticed the puzzling change.
The bio in full used to read:
Wife, mother, sister, daughter. Entrepreneur & advocate for the education and empowerment of women & girls. This is my personal page. Views expressed are my own.
But it had been changed to:
Wife, mother, sister, daughter. Advisor to POTUS on job creation + economic empowerment, workforce development & entrepreneurship. Personal Pg. Views are my own
After last weekend's Women's March, many on Twitter started to hone in on the change and its implications.
And given Ivanka Trump's shaky track record with liberal voters, despite her repeated claims that she's an ally and advocate for progressive causes, it came as no surprise that a backlash would be swift and fierce.
Twitter quickly called her out for the blunt change:
And there were plenty of theories as to why she made the change:
The bio change also occurred shortly before Ivanka was called out for tweeting in support of Oprah Winfrey's powerful speech at this year's Golden Globes a few weeks ago. She still doesn't seem to grasp the notion that she can't say she supports something and still ignore the abuses by her very own father.
Some were quick to point out, however, that perhaps she just hit her character limit:
Whatever her motivation, at least we now know where her true priorities lie, and it isn't with her fellow women. Or, at least, not explicitly.
