It doesn't take much to get to know someone. Odds are the way you dress, the way you speak, or even the way you greet someone gives away a lot more than you think. These signs are easy to pick up on if someone pays even a little bit of attention. Though, there are some things that stand out as easily unlikable when you meet someone, like the following entries below.

Reddit user, u/[usernameunavailable], wanted to hear about:

What things instantly make a person unlikable?

Okay, First Things First.

An Explanation, Not An Excuse

People that refuse to own up to their sh-tty behavior and instead blame it on some sort of mental/physical disorder. Bonus points if it isn't formally diagnosed and they're just making sh-t up.

E-ris

As somebody who has been diagnosed with ASD, those kinds of people make my blood boil. Having a disorder is an explanation, not an excuse for bad behaviour.

thunderfart_99

People who make mean "jokes" constantly.

Sure if we have an existing rapport, that can be apart of it. But if youre coming out of the gate constantly sh-tting on other people and saying "its just a joke", Im going to assume youre just an a--hole.

undisclosedinsanity

Come On, Nerds, We Can Be Better Than This.

Gatekeeping. Or when I try to connect with someone over a shared hobby/interest and they're immediately abrasive over it, or shoot me down because I'm not as into it as they are.

"Cool Darth Vader shirt! I love Star Wars! What did you think of Rise of Skywalker?"

"Well for starter's is The Rise of Skywalker, and second of all, the fact you even ask that shows you aren't a real fan, otherwise you'd know it was objectively terrible. Let's try this one hot shot, what's droid D3-A1's programmer's home world's regional governor's teacher's pet's name? You don't know? Didn't think so."

Look At Me, Everybody! Look At Me!

That constant need of attention that makes them compete with other people by raising their volume, one-upping their stories, or being "relatable" and "quirky".

novato1995

I had a former friend who would constantly be trying to one-up one of my other friends. If my friend got a date, then this guy is sleeping with 3 different women at once. The funny thing is that we had another friend confirm that the stories were fake, or twisted to make himself look like the world' biggest pussy slayer, when the stories all ended up with him being rejected in reality.

If they mock others for their attempts to be a better person and try to drag them back down.

Like when someone orders a salad or grilled chicken instead of a fat greasy cheeseburger, and the other people in the group tease them about it. Like...why? Maybe their metabolism isn't as amazing as yours. Just let them make healthier choices if they want to.

Very Easy To Mistake The Two

Arrogance, i hate arrogance with a passion.

sean_plays_

Yup, there's a line between confidence and arrogance, and I don't think a lot of people know where it is.

E.g. if you're confident, you're self-assured enough to be able to admit when you're wrong. If you're arrogant, you'll insist you're right no matter what because being wrong hurts your ego.

Killing You With Kindness Bullets

People who are polite character assassins. You know - the kind of person who manipulate others for their own benefit, putting others down with a smile on their face and gaining rapport with the ones who benefit them.

Most people don't even know what those are

[usernameredacted]

'putting others down with a smile on their face' - I know multiple people like this and I've done my best to stop talking to them entirely.

ToastV4

C'Mon, Man, We're All Just People Here.

Being rude to people.

Especially waiting staff and customer service and support persons. I instantly cant stand you if you are rude to people who serve others.

Did I Tell You...?

When someone can't stop bragging

[usernameredacted]

Did I tell you my little Timmy placed second in the state in chess? Did I tell you my spouse sends me a text every morning without fail? Did I tell you that I've met 8 celebrities and they were all so down to earth except this one...

Did I tell you....

homer simpson doh GIFGiphy

People who refuse to see their mistakes and expect everyone else to forgive them time and time again even though they refuse to change and better themselves.

insxrt_usxrnamx

"A sorry without change is just manipulation"
