Former Trump White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders—long criticized for being little more than a propagandist for the Trump administration—was quickly taken to task after she suggested Democratic President Joe Biden's policies are responsible for "one disaster after another."

Sanders—a Republican who last year announced her candidacy in the 2022 Arkansas gubernatorial election—went to Twitter and attempted to blame the Biden administration for crime rates, a "dangerous crisis at the border," inflation and "soaring gas and food prices."

Republicans have for months blamed Biden for high crime rates, particularly amid ongoing social unrest throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, though these claims are frankly misleading.

Eight out of the 10 states with the highest homicide rates in 2020 voted for former President Donald Trump, what the centrist think tank Third Way labeled "The Red State Murder Problem."

Although the Biden administration's staff are divided on how to respond to a record number of crossings at the nation's southern border, much of this friction is carried over from what Biden believes are former President Trump's "inhumane immigration policies," particularly a "zero tolerance" child separation policy that critics considered both cruel and immoral.

The policy sent many up in arms, particularly after Trump admitted it was a negotiating tool to get Democrats to cave to his demands, which included tougher border security as well as the erection of a wall along the nation's southern border.

Americans are currently feeling the impacts of inflation at the gas pump and at the grocery store. With inflation running high, the Federal Reserve has announced plans to raise interest rates in an effort to "pump the brakes" on the economy.

While many Americans believe the government isn't doing enough to reduce inflation and address supply chain disruptions, the President, no matter who they are, does not have the power to curb inflation. Nor does the White House control demographic or technological changes that can affect an economy's direction.

Though presidential reputations tend to, as The New York Times once so aptly observed, "rise or fall with gross domestic product," a president's economic record is mostly up to chance, "highly dependent on the dumb luck of where the nation is in the economic cycle."

Trump and prominent Republicans have long blamed Biden for spiking gas prices, an issue that continues to be touched upon in daily press briefings. The implication, of course, is that gas prices remained low during the Trump administration but that is not necessarily true.

In recent months, for example, Trump has repeatedly exaggerated the size of the price increase, telling stories on Fox News in which the price of gas when he left office is off by "more than 50 cents per gallon," according to one fact check.

According to price data collected by the federal Energy Information Administration, the national average price of a gallon of gasoline for the week of Jan. 18, 2021, the week Trump left office, was $2.38, which is 28 percent higher than Trump has previously claimed.

Sanders was swiftly criticized by many who fact checked her claims.

Others accused her of continuing to shill for the Trump administration.

Primary elections in Arkansas are scheduled to be held on May 24. Runoff elections for instances where no candidate receives over 50% of the vote are scheduled for June 21.

Sanders, the daughter of former Arkansas Republican Governor Mike Huckabee, has raised more than $470,000 of contributions in the last month. That "increased her total contribution collections to $11.7 million and total spending to $6 million, leaving a balance [of] $5.6 million," according to The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

The newspaper noted that for the general election, Sanders "reported raising $55,730 last month to increase her total contributions and balance to $1.84 million."

Trump endorsed Sanders almost as soon as she announced her candidacy, referring to her as a "warrior."

Speaking to anchor Jake Tapper on CNN last April, Ohio Republican Mike Turner said that Russian propaganda had "infected" the GOP in a clip that has resurfaced after President-elect Donald Trump had him ousted as House Intelligence Committee chair.

At the time, Turner made it clear that his fellow Republicans were parroting Russian propaganda about the war in Ukraine and its relationship with NATO members. That claim came after House Foreign Affairs Committee chair Michael McCaul, who said he thinks "Russian propaganda has made its way into the United States, unfortunately, and it’s infected a good chunk of my party’s base."
