Fans Defend Harry Styles After He's Called Out For Leaving $5 Tip On $70 Bill In Resurfaced Photo

After a TikTok video called out Styles for his seemingly small tip on a restaurant bill back in 2015, fans jumped to his defense.

Fans of Harry Styles are jumping to the singer and actor's defense after an old controversy has resurfaced on TikTok.

The viral video shows a receipt from a restaurant Styles visited in 2015 at which he left a very low tip—just $5 on a $72 bill.

15 to 20% is customary in the U.S., of course, and $5 is less that 10%. The discrepancy has led to lots of call-outs from TikTok users criticizing the star for being stingy.

The video shows a photo of Styles that he posed for, presumably with one of the restaurant's patrons, and a receipt for the $72.58 bill at a place called Campus Corner in Pennsylvania.

"Harry, I'm calling you out bro," TikToker @californiasunlouis wrote in onscreen text, along with the caption, "the math ain't mathing."

But the overwhelming majority of responses came from people who thought the call-out was misplaced.

For starters, the incident happened nearly nine years ago when Styles was 20 years old. Bringing it up again now seems petty.

Styles is also British, of course, which has very different tipping customs than the U.S.—and where $5 on a $72 bill wouldn't be out of the ordinary.

But most importantly, several commenters pointed out that Campus Corner is a takeout place. Tipping on takeout has become more common since the pandemic, but it's certainly not the norm.

The TikTok video sparked quite a bit of debate in the comments, but most agreed that Styles didn't do anything wrong.

Others pointed out that whatever may have happened here, Styles is generally known for leaving large tips.

Whatever the situation may be, it was nearly a decade ago. We can probably let it slide!
