A poignant moment between Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff at the funeral for former President Jimmy Carter went viral—and people were feeling all the emotions

Carter, the longest-lived president in U.S. history, died last month at 100 years old. His funeral was one of pomp and circumstance, and projected an aura of unity amid the political turbulence that characterized the 2024 election cycle and is sure to ratchet up once President-elect Donald Trump takes office next Tuesday.

This was likely on the minds of all the attendees, at least to some degree, and Harris, who lost to Trump in November, appeared somber at one point.

That is until her husband looked at her, checking in. A video of the moment shows her turning to face him and they appear to share a mutual understanding before she smiles at him and turns back to watch the proceedings.

You can see the moment in the video below.

And people were undeniably touched by it.

Emhoff has consistently shown unwavering public support for his wife throughout challenging campaigns, including the 2020 Democratic primary, and amidst partisan attacks that intensified throughout last year’s presidential race after Harris stepped in and replaced President Joe Biden on the ticket.

Emhoff has also spoken about their marriage as a testament to gender equality, embracing sacrifice to support her ambitions.

He has two adult children from a previous marriage whom Harris helped raise and has said that helping women achieve their personal goals "is not taking away opportunities from men," adding that Harris "lifts me up and helps me with my duties. We help each other.”

It points out that those who win conflicts shape how those events are remembered, recorded, and taught to future generations, leading to biased historical accounts and warped perceptions.
