Guy Sparks Debate With 'Red Flag' Reaction To Girlfriend Surprising Him At New Year's Eve Party

TikToker @tessdhiggins shared a viral video breaking down why a man's reaction to his girlfriend showing up to a New Year's Eve party after he thought she had to work is so troubling.

We've all experienced that feeling of caring more about someone than they care about us.

But goodness, is it hard to watch other people go through it.

On New Year's Eve, a woman was so excited to surprise her boyfriend—after they both believed she would have to work—that she had someone film her surprising him at their friends' New Year's Eve party. But her boyfriend did not have the reaction she might have expected.

The woman came down the stairs in an adorable and sparkly short purple dress, sparkly feather sash, and her hair done in pretty, natural waves. Her boyfriend was at the bottom of the stairs, holding a beer and talking to friends, looking relaxed.

When she tapped him on the shoulder and he turned to see who it was, his demeanor immediately changed. She started loudly laughing a long, open-mouthed laugh while his face turned bright red, his mouth turned into a wide, nervous-looking smile, and he theatrically turned to scan the room in each direction before turning back to the woman.

But the moment escalated when she stepped off the stairs and leaned toward him to hug him, only for him to push her away by knocking her in the shoulder.

That man looks more than just surprised to see her... who is gonna tell her that he is couch guy 2.0? #couchguy #nye #surprise #newyearseve #newyear #redflag #Relationship #gossipgirl #gossipgirlhere #foryou #tiktokviral #unitedstates #usa #viral #trend #trending #fyp #CapCut

Viewers of the video were left cringing and concerned. It was clear that the guy was not interested in the woman being there, but it was not immediately clear why.

Some were reminded of Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo's book, He's Just Not That Into You, as well as the previously trending "Couch Guy," which featured a woman surprising her boyfriend at his college, only for him to be less than interested in her arrival.

One TikToker in particular argued that he should have at least been excited to see her and found the shove at the end of the video to be alarming.

@tessdhiggins

your partner should be excited to see you! This is a giant red flag! #dating #relationships #couchguy #redflags #breakup

Others went so far as to think that the guy was immediately worried about getting caught doing something he shouldn't do. The most popular guesses were that she was the other woman while his wife was at the party, or when he anticipated her not being there, he'd brought a side piece to the party in her place.

But some went darker with their theories and read into his body language fear instead of angst. The reddening of his face, nervous smile, and looking around, as if for an exit, might also be read as panic, especially if he were suddenly in the presence of a persistent stalker.

Some incorporated the woman's long laugh into their theory, reading it as a confirmation of, "Caught ya!"

No matter what the explanation is for this video, it's clear that the woman did not get the reaction from her man that she was hoping for when she was able to get out of work and attend the party by his side.

If two people were really into each other, the sudden appearance of someone who was supposed to be absent would be a cause for celebration, especially on a night like New Year's Eve when you no longer have to worry about who you'll kiss at midnight.

Megyn Kelly Tells 'Homicidal Maniac' Lindsey Graham To 'STFU' About Iran War In Brutal Rant

Conservative pundit Megyn Kelly criticized South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham on Tuesday, calling him a "homicidal maniac" and demanding he "shut the f**k up" following his calls for intervention in Cuba and for President Donald Trump to join Israel in attacking the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah in Lebanon.

In particular, Graham urged Middle Eastern partners to do more to support the U.S. war effort, telling countries such as Saudi Arabia to “up your game.” He also criticized Spain after its leadership strongly opposed the attacks on Iran. Graham said Spain had “lost your way,” and called on the U.S. to cut ties with the country and withdraw its military air base from Spanish territory.

New Study Finds Alarmingly High Percentage Of Gen Z Men Think Women Should Be Submissive

As of 2026, members of Generation Z (typically defined as born 1996/97–2012) will be approximately 14 to 30 years old. They are the first generation in the developed world to have no recollection of a time before widespread internet access, cellphones, and social media.

They're also the first generation—in the United States—to grow up with women on the Supreme Court and the last major milestone of the women's rights movement, the Violence Against Women Act of 1994 (VAWA), signed into law.
