Greta Gerwig Is Finally Speaking Out About Those 'Barbie' Oscars Snubs

The 'Barbie' writer and director broke her silence over her and Margot Robbie's supposed Academy Award nomination snubs in an interview with 'Time' magazine.

While the rest of the world may be fuming that Greta Gerwig was not nominated for a Best Director Oscar for her stellar work on Barbie, Gerwig herself seems quite okay with it.

In fact, Gerwig told Time magazine that she is beyond thrilled with all of the nominations the film did receive. Of course, along with everyone else, she was hoping Margot Robbie would land a nomination in the Best Actress category.

She told the publication:

“Of course I wanted it for Margot, but I’m just happy we all get to be there together.”

Gerwig addressed her own Best Director snub by expressing her excitement that she was, in fact, nominated for an Oscar in another category.

The Best Adapted Screenplay nominee shared:

“A friend’s mom said to me, ‘I can’t believe you didn’t get nominated.'"
“I said, ‘But I did. I got an Oscar nomination.’ She was like, ‘Oh, that’s wonderful for you!’ I was like, ‘I know!’”

People on social media appreciated Gerwig's eloquence as well as her appreciation for her Best Adapted Screenplay nomination.

Many, however, still believe she earned a Best Director nod.

Several also agreed with Gerwig that Barbie has plenty to celebrate.

At a SAG screening in January, Robbie expressed similar sentiments, sharing:

“There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed."
“Obviously, I think Greta should be nominated as a director because what she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing, what she pulled off, it really is.”

Before either Robbie or Gerwig broke their silence on the matter, the film's other stars Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera, who were both nominated in the Best Supporting categories, shared their disappointment for their colleagues.

Ferrera told Variety:

“I was incredibly disappointed that they weren’t nominated. Greta has done just about everything that a director could do to deserve it."
"What Margot achieved as an actress is truly unbelievable. One of the things about Margot as an actress is how easy she makes everything look.”

In a statement shared with PEOPLE, Ryan Gosling echoed Ferrera's dismay.

"There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no 'Barbie' movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film."
"No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius."

Aside from eight Oscar nominations, the movie also pulled in more than $1 billion.

The 96th Annual Academy Awards will air March 10 on ABC, but we'd say Barbie has already won.
