Greenland citizen Aannguaq Reimer-Johansen has captured the internet’s attention after posting an image of a red "MAGA" hat featuring an anti-Trump message. The viral post has sparked curiosity online, with many people eager to find out where they can get a similar hat for themselves.
Greenland is an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, alongside the Faroe Islands, the only other autonomous territory within the Kingdom. Citizens of both Greenland and the Faroe Islands are full citizens of Denmark. As one of the Overseas Countries and Territories of the European Union, Greenland’s citizens are also recognized as EU citizens.
Although geographically part of the North American continent, Greenland has maintained strong political and cultural ties to Europe—specifically to Norway and Denmark, its historical colonial powers—for over a millennium.
The United States has long recognized Greenland's strategic importance. In 1946, the U.S. even proposed purchasing Greenland from Denmark, offering $100 million in gold as part of the deal.
The world is now nervously watching President Donald Trump since he voiced his desire for territorial expansion, calling "the ownership and control of Greenland" an "absolute necessity."
Over the weekend, ahead of Vice President J.D. Vance's visit to the territory, Reimer-Johansen shared a photo on Facebook of a red hat emblazoned with the phrase “Make America Go Away.” The design cleverly reworks Trump’s well-known slogan, “Make America Great Again,” which has long been associated with red hats.
He added (roughly translated):
"Recommendation to fellow citizens in Sisimiut: Vance’s wife’s visit is a charm offensive. If you smile at them or take a selfie with them, you are sending a message to the world that you love the USA and want to be part of it."
"It is recommended not to show interest. We have already expressed our stance through a large demonstration—let’s remain firm and stay united."

People loved it—and immediately wondered where they could get a hat like this one of their very own.
Vance announced Tuesday that he will accompany his wife on a U.S. delegation trip to Greenland, following backlash over the original visit schedule.
The trip will now focus on a visit to the American Pittufik space base, with Vance, second lady Usha Vance, national security adviser Michael Waltz—who has been implicated in the "Signalgate" scandal—and Energy Secretary Chris Wright in attendance.
The revised itinerary replaces an earlier plan that included stops in Nuuk, visits to Greenlandic heritage sites, and attendance at the territory’s national dogsled race.
The shift, which keeps the delegation away from major settlements, appears to have eased tensions in both Nuuk and Copenhagen, where officials had expressed concerns over U.S. intentions in the self-governing Danish territory.
