People Explain Which Movies They Love That No One Else Seems To Remember

People Explain Which Movies They Love That No One Else Seems To Remember

One of my favorite films is The Day of the Locust. It's a really depressing tale about terrible people in Hollywood. You've likely seen a few movies like that over the years but trust me... none of them compare to The Day of the Locust.

The film has a hell of a cast. Donald Sutherland? Karen Black? Burgess Meredith? Need I go on? It has a chilling screenplay, with one hell of an ending. And oh yeah... it happens to be a rather excellent adaptation of a novel by the late Nathanael West. Do yourself a favor and see it sometime. It'll change your life.

Too bad I have so few people to discuss it with...

People told us about some of their favorites after Redditor darkweirdvalley asked the online community,

"What’s a movie you love that you swear no one ever talks about like the world has forgotten it?"

Batteries Not Included (1987)

"Batteries Not Included."

"It's a cute little 80s movie about some alien robots who took up residence in this old apartment complex and when the residents are threatened with eviction so the place could be torn down, the robots help the tenants and the tenants help the robot aliens. Anyways, I enjoyed it."

moldylemming

I saw this several times when I was a kid! I somehow feel it was left behind in the late 1980s and early 1990s, never to be heard from again.

In the Mouth of Madness (1994)

"In the Mouth of Madness. John Carpenter with Sam Neil."

"Everyone talks about The Thing like it was Carpenter's best work ever but I find In the Mouth of Madness the superior movie in almost every way."

Dragon_Blue_Eyes

This one is a genuinely unnerving! A fine film indeed.

Murder by Death (1976)

"Murder by Death. Everyone always talks about clue but neglects this classic. They make a great double feature of murder mystery comedies."

lordcadlow

I concur! This film is a hoot. So witty and well-written.

We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story (1993)

"We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story. The creepy carnival/circus place in that movie is the stuff of nightmares."

undeadgorgeous

This is one of those movies I must have watched ten or twelve times between 1996 and 1999 and never again.

Fly Away Home (1996)

"Fly Away Home. Was obsessed with it and it is never mentioned. Was it a fever dream???"

[deleted]

Jeff Daniels? Anna Paquin? What more could you ask for?

Mouse Hunt (1997)

"My favourite part is when Nathan Lane gets shot out of the chimney and comes back into the house and they can only speak to each other in grunts and mimes because they're so distraught."

Groady

This is one of the funniest films I've seen. It's hilarious – and I love how anachronistic it is!

The Great Mouse Detective (1986)

"The Great Mouse Detective. That, The Rescuers, and An American Tail were three movies I watched all the time as a kid. I haven’t thought about those in a very long time, but I guess it’s probably why I like mice and rats so much."

SuperBackUp8000

Definitely not very appreciated these days but it had a hell of a lot of fans when I was a kid!

The Court Jester (1955)

"The Court Jester. I've never met anyone outside of my family who has even heard of it. It's really old so I understand why, but It's a shame more people haven't seen it."

ConcealingWillow

Danny Kaye? Angela Lansbury? This is a classic from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Hilarious. It's currently streaming!

The Last Unicorn (1982)

"That movie was my childhood and when I got the meet the author of the book it was based on I cried."

HappyChaosOfTheNorth

The book is quite moving and the movie is a pretty worthwhile adaptation, all things considered.

Frailty (2001)

"Frailty. It’s excellent psychological horror and it doesn’t get nearly enough love."

[deleted]

This movie is absolutely chilling. Magnificent performances from Bill Paxton, Matthew McConaughey and Powers Boothe.

Thank You For Smoking (2005)

"Thank You For Smoking. That is a fantastic movie; I feel like it should be required viewing in schools because holy sh*t does it encourage critical thinking."

newyne

Definitely. And the irony of the whole film is nobody actually smokes a cigarette as well. I always loved that small detail.

There are so many great films out there that need some more love! It's always a pleasure when you come across something underseen and can share it with everyone and feel like you've struck gold!
