Rudy Reportedly Called Arizona Official Last Year to Get Election Results 'Fixed Up'

Former President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, was one of the foremost purveyors of Trump's lies that the 2020 election was "stolen" by Democrats.

For months, Giuliani filed frivolous lawsuits, held bizarre hearings, and went viral for bumbling press conferences insisting there was proof of widespread fraud in the 2020 election (there wasn't).

Now, a new report from the Arizona Republic details Giuliani's efforts to challenge the election results in Maricopa County, Arizona—one of the most consequential targets of Trump's election lies.

Giuliani left a voicemail in December of last year to the chair of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, Bill Gates, saying:

"Bill, it's Rudy Giuliani, President Trump's lawyer. If you get a chance, would you please give me a call? I have a few things I'd like to talk over with you. Maybe we can get this thing fixed up. You know, I really think it's a shame that Republicans sort of are both in this, kind of, situation. And I think there may be a nice way to resolve this for everybody."

The reporting comes as Maricopa County's millions of ballots undergo an audit forced by Arizona's Republican state senators. The audit has made national news for the shadiness of the firm overseeing the process, and for the wild conspiracy theories promoted by the auditors.

Among those exasperated with the audit is Gates himself, the subject of Giuliani's voicemail, who said last week:

"Now, it's time to say 'Enough is enough.' It is time to push back on the Big Lie. We must do this. We must do this as a member of the Republican party, we must do this as a member of the Board of Supervisors, we need to do this as a country. Otherwise, we are not gonna be able to move forward and have an election in 2022 that we can all believe the results, whatever they may be."

Both Giuliani and Trump continue to promote "the big lie," and people were further disgusted by Giuliani's efforts after hearing the voicemail.

Some think Giuliani deserves prison time.

Giuliani's home was raided by the FBI earlier this month, signaling more legal troubles ahead.

JD Vance Claims Pro-Ukraine Protesters 'Shouted' At His 3-Year-Old—But Video Shows Otherwise

Vice President J.D. Vance was criticized after he claimed in a post on X that a group of "Slava Ukraini" protesters shouted at him while he was out for a walk with his 3-year-old daughter, only for the backlash to intensify when video taken by the protesters seemed to contradict his story.

Though Vance described the dialogue as a mostly respectful conversation, his post betrayed his anger at something that didn't happen at all.
