Elderly Couple Gets Caught Transporting $300k Of Weed—Claims It Was For Christmas Presents

Well you know what they say, when it comes to gifts it's the pot that counts! *rimshot*


Except in Nebraska, apparently.

An octogenarian California couple were arrested in York County, Nebraska for transporting some sixty pounds of marijuana with a street value of $336,000.

Sounds like drug trafficking, right? Wrong! Patrick Jiron, 80, and Barbara Jiron, 70 told York County police they were driving the sixty pounds of pot worth more than some people's houses to give it away as Christmas gifts in Vermont.

It all started with a routine traffic stop when Patrick forgot to use his turn signal. (Which, while we're here, let this be a lesson to all you people who refuse to use your turn signal, IT'S ***LITERALLY*** NEXT TO YOUR HAND FOR A REASON!)

Lieutenant Paul Vrbka told the York News-Times the deputies who stopped the Jirons could smell marijuana coming from the Jiron's truck, and drug-sniffing dogs indicated the presence of contraband, and the couple were taken into custody on charges of possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver and no drug tax stamp, which is required in Nebraska for pot dealers. Both are felony charges.

The couple said they didn't know it was illegal to transport marijuana in Nebraska.

Leave it to the cops to put a damper on people's generosity. And as someone whose grandmother just stuck an adhesive bow on one of those Whitman's Sampler chocolate boxes from the Rite-Aid and called it Christmas, I am personally hurt by this story. Why won't Nebraska let Grammy Barb and Grampy Pat be great?!?!

Anyway, Grandma Jiron wasn't jailed due to medical issues, but Gramps Jiron was put in the slammer for good measure. So much for a green Christmas!
