A routine traffic stop led police to discover $1 million worth of narcotics and a secret tunnel from the U.S. to Mexico.
In what resembled a scene from hit shows like Weeds or Breaking Bad, authorities in Arizona discovered a tunnel leading from an abandoned KFC restaurant in San Luis, AZ to a house over the border in San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico. The tunnel which was used to smuggle narcotics by pulling a rope was over 600 feet long, 22 feet deep, 5 feet high and 3 feet wide.
When officers pulled over Ivan Lopez, who owns the building, drug sniffing dogs found two containers holding over $1 million in methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and heroin. The discovery of the drugs led to a search of Lopez's home and property where the tunnel was located.
The tunnel found in a chicken restaurant of course brought comparisons to another well known chicken joint.
Now about that wall.
Better get back to the drawing board on that wall plan.
