Don Jr. Chimed In On The Hilaria Baldwin Drama—And It Instantly Blew Up In His Face

Donald Trump Jr. was reminded of the age old adage "don't start nuthin', won't be nuthin'," after he once again set himself up for total internet failure with a tweet that just begged to be clapped back at.

Clap back is exactly what people did.

This time, Jr. attempted to make a petty joke about the controversy surrounding Hilaria Baldwin's ethnicity. If you're not up to speed, there have been questions over whether Hilaria is actually a Spaniard or if she is a Caucasian woman from Massachusetts lying about her roots.

Hilaria—who is married to Alec Baldwin—has repeatedly clarified that she, like many people, lived her life between Spain and Boston. Like many who spend extended periods of time in countries that speak other languages, she went by "Hillary" in the states and "Hilaria," the Spanish variant of her name, in Spain.

Her mother and siblings live in Spain. Hilaria chose to live in the United States.

As far as the Baldwins are concerned there is no controversy. There's just a person who grew up splitting her time between two countries and speaks two languages.

But others are accusing Hilaria of "playing up" her heritage for the cameras—specifically pointing to an incident where she appeared to forget the English word for cucumber, spoke with and without an accent and appeared in and on the covers of magazines targeted toward the Hispanic or Latina consumer.

Donald Trump Jr. decided he was going to get in on the "fun" and mock Hilaria Baldwin too, throwing in a sneaky swipe at Saturday Night Live and Alec Baldwin's acting as well.

Losing presidential candidate and one-term President Donald Trump re-tweeted Jr's jab.

Twitter was more than happy to let Donald Trump Jr. know exactly where he went wrong here.

Users felt like there are slightly more important things going on at the moment.

Is this really what the Trump men need to be worried about right now?

Is SNL really the place Jr. should be focusjng?

Alec Baldwin's portrayal of Donald Trump is popularly and critically regarded as one of the best things on TV in recent years.

The show is kind of a big fish for Don Jr. to try to tackle.

Also, jabbing at Hilaria Baldwin for something his partner has done is peak hypocrisy.

It wasn't that long ago when Kimberly Guilfoille started referring to herself as a "first generation American" and the child of "Puerto Rican immigrants." Puerto Rico is part of the United States. One cannot be an "immigrant" from Puerto Rico any more than one can be an "immigrant" from Wisconsin.

Baldwin and Guilfoille have pretty comparable backstories.

Yeah... yet another attempt by Jr. to be clever just didn't work.
