Danny DeVito Offers Hilarious Response To Disney Not Yet Casting Him In Live-Action 'Hercules'

Danny DeVito Offers Hilarious Response To Disney Not Yet Casting Him In Live-Action 'Hercules'
WIRED/YouTube

Disney recently announced it is producing a live-action version of its 1997 classic animated film Hercules. So of course it's time to imagine which humans will play human versions of the characters.

And obviously the first person who comes to your mind when you think of Hercules himself is Danny DeVito, right? Well if not, Mr. DeVito would like a word with you!

During an appearance in Wired's popular video series where celebs answer "the web's most searched questions," DeVito gave his casting ideas for the upcoming adaptation.

It was as hilarious as you'd imagine.

You can watch just that segment below (the full video is available at the end of this article).

Not much is know just yet about the new live-action Hercules, except that it will be produced by the directors of Avengers, brothers Anthony and Joe Russo, and directed by Guy Ritchie, who helmed the live-action Aladdin starring Will Smith back in 2019.

But DeVito has some ideas.

As he told Wired:

“I am the live-action Hercules!... If they don’t put me in that, they don’t have a hair on their a**."

Listen, when he's right he's right.

Take this thing to a whole other cinematic level and cast Danny DeVito as Hercules himself, you cowards!

In the 1997 Hercules film, DeVito voiced the grumpy satyr Philoctetes, also known as Phil, a sort of sidekick to Tate Donovan's Hercules. And of course it's more likely he was referring to the name of the film in his hilarious rant and suggesting he reprise his role as Phil, not the titular hero.

But still, he might be on to something.

If Guy Ritchie and the brothers Russo really want to get some butts in seats, they should go for stunt-casting and have Danny DeVito play both roles, like an Eddie Murphy or a Tyler Perry movie. Who wouldn't buy a ticket to that spectacle?

On Twitter, people loved the idea of DeVito being involved in the new Hercules, whatever the capacity.

If his prospective appearance in the new Hercules is too long for you to wait for more DeVito, you can catch him voicing Satan himself in the FX animated series Little Demon.

Here's DeVito's full Wired interview.
