Danny DeVito Reacts To Fans Demanding That He Play Wario In 'Super Mario Bros.' Sequel

The 'Always Sunny...' star told 'The Movie Dweeb' that he's on board to play Mario's nemesis in an upcoming sequel—and offered Chris Pratt a hilarious warning.

Danny DeVito said he would be willing to voice the Nintendo video game character Wario in a possible sequel to 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

"You never know what happens in the world," he teased during an interview with The Movie Dweeb. "I'm up for a lot of things, you know."

The 79-year-old It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor stopped by the entertainment talk show YouTube channel to promote his new film Poolman.

DeVito didn't turn down the prospect of voicing Mario's archnemesis when host Daniel Merrifield suggested "what the world really needs" was him as Wario.

The affable Hollywood veteran, famous for films like Throw Momma from the Train and Twins and TV shows like Taxi, said:

"I’m ready to do a lot of things."
“Whatever’s coming, you know, I look at, I see, I evaluate.”

Host Daniel Merrifield joked he would have a word with Chris Pratt, who voiced Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, much to the chagrin of hardcore Nintendo fans.

DeVito humorously replied:

"Yeah, you should let him know that. Tell them I'm going to take him to the cleaners but that I should be in the movie."

Wario is portrayed as the complete opposite of Mario: a crude, sneaky, and greedy treasure hunter.

His name is a portmanteau of "Mario" and the Japanese word "warui" which means "bad."

The snide character shares some of the physical qualities of Mario but has a more extended belly, muscular arms, and a pointier zig-zagging mustache.

Moviegoers gave an enthusiastic thumbs up for DeVito as Wario.

DeVito is no stranger to voice acting.

Some of his animation acting credits include lending his voice as Phil in Disney's Hercules (1997), the titular character in Illumination's The Lorax (2012), and Uncle Dan in Migration (2023).

It was a no-brainer when a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel was announced, considering the 2023 film grossed $1.356 billion worldwide.

Pratt also teased the possibility of a Nintendo Cinematic Universe with spinoffs and sequels.

And while the original actors are expected to return, with Pratt reprising Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, not much else is known about who would be joining the cast or what new Nintendo characters would be featured in Super Mario Bros. 2.

In Poolman, DeVito stars alongside Annette Bening, DeWanda Wise, Stephen Tobolowsky, Clancy Brown, John Ortiz, Ray Wise, Juliet Mills, Ariana DeBose, and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

The live-action comedy mystery film is about an LA pool cleaner played by Chris Pine, who is making his directorial debut and co-wrote the screenplay.

Pine's character, Darren Barrenman, is joined by his ragtag team of friends and residents of his old apartment complex to expose the misdeeds of a corrupt councilor.

Poolman is currently playing in limited release.

Trump isn't exactly known to be a looker but he has nonetheless declared himself a "perfect physical specimen" and boasted about his physical prowess, once noting that his own White House physician had declared him "healthier than Obama"—despite Trump's distaste for exercise and fondness for fast food.
