Liz Cheney Blames Democrats' Impeachment Inquiry For Turkey's Decision To Invade Syria

Liz Cheney Blames Democrats' Impeachment Inquiry For Turkey's Decision To Invade Syria
Fox News

Since President Donald Trump decided to withdraw the military from Syria and abandon the United States' Kurdish allies who safeguard ISIS prisoners, the President's ardent supporters in the GOP struggled with how to respond.

Some like military combat veteran Representative Adam Kinzinger of Illinois went the direct route and called Trump out for betraying the Kurds. South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham suggested Trump's claim ISIS was eliminated was the biggest lie of the Trump presidency—on Fox News no less.

And Wyoming Representative Liz Cheney went online to state Trump's reasoning was completely unfathomable. People were kind enough to provide the reasons they thought the President handed the keys to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

But now Cheney provided her own explanation for why Erdoğan launched attacks in Syria.

On Fox & Friends, Cheney said:

"The impeachment proceedings that are going on and what the Democrats are doing themselves to try to weaken this president is part of this."
"It was not an accident that the Turks chose this moment to roll across the border."
"And I think the Democrats have got to pay very careful attention to the damage that they're doing with impeachment proceedings."

Watch her remarks here:

However a spokesperson for Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi told The Huffington Post:

"There is strong bipartisan opposition to the President's decision to let Turkey bomb Northern Syria and effectively unleash ISIS."
"No delusional talking point can change that fact."

Pelosi's office was not alone in dismissing Cheney's theory as "delusional" and dishonest.

No one was buying what Cheney was selling.

And they let her know.

Congress returns from recess on Tuesday, October 15. Whether they address Trump's actions while they were in a designated state and local working period remains to be seen.

The film Vice about Vice President Dick Cheney is available here.
