Timothée Chalamet And Elle Fanning Hilariously Recreate 'Holding Space' Meme With Viral Reporter

The A Complete Unknown stars sat down with reporter Tracy Gilchrist, admitting they were "starstruck" by her after she made a reference to her viral "holding space" video from when she interviewed Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in November.

Timothée Chalamet and Elle Fanning recreated the viral "holding space" moment made famous during a Wicked interview with reporter Tracy Gilchrist.

Chalamet, who stars as Bob Dylan in the musical biopic A Complete Unknown, showed up at an interview alongside his co-star, Fanning, and said they were "starstruck" by their interviewer.

Previously, Gilchrist went viral for an interview with Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

At one point, Gilchrist became existential and told the actors that Wicked fans were "holding space" for the lyrics of "Defying Gravity," prompting Grande to delicately hold Erivo's finger in support.

When Chalamet and Fanning sat down for their interview, Gilchrist repeated the now-infamous catchphrase, telling them, "I'm holding space for you."

Cognizant of the viral meme, the actors told Gilchrist they were both "starstruck."

This prompted Chalamet to offer Fanning a finger to hold, much like how Grande lovingly held Erivo's finger.

Gilchrist laughed at the mocked tribute.

Chalamet then told her it was "an honor" talking to her. "I feel sort of starstruck," he said.

Fanning, who plays Sylvie Russo, a renamed version of activist and one-time girlfriend of Bob Dylan, Suze Rotolo, echoed the sentiment and told Gilchrist:

"There's nothing that we can do that can trump what happened, you know what I mean?"

Gilchrist took it all in and commented:

"I'm loving this energy though."

Fans were loving all of this for Gilchrist.

After the Wicked interview became memeified, Gilchrist poked fun at herself in a TikTok clip, which Grande approved and commented, "Oh my goodness! Our Queen!!!! Holding space with you always."

The exact meaning of "holding space" remains up for interpretation, and it's stumping social media users as well as Grande, who later told Variety :

“I didn’t know what any part of it meant. I remember in the moment, asking myself, ‘Am I OK? Did I not hear something?’”

One thing is certain: U.S. theaters are currently holding space for A Complete Unknown since its release on Christmas Day.
