Captain Marvelisn't just making a killing in our hearts--she's actually set a completely new box office record.

Brie Larson, Carol Danvers, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe just made history by grossing over $1 billion--a record held in the superhero genre solely by male superhero movies.

Brie Larson celebrated earlier this weekend with an Instagram post.

This even beat out DC's Wonder Woman, which earned $100 million in its opening weekend.

Captain Marvel earned $153 million. The movie is now Marvel's eighth most successful movie.

Carol Danvers' next appearance is scheduled in Avengers: Endgame at the end of the month, but talk of a Captain Marvel sequel is under way now that the film has crossed this impressive threshold.

Black Panther tops the list of highest grossing Marvel films.

Marvel also has eleven films on its "upcoming" roster, nine of which are as of yet untitled.

Aside from Avengers: Endgame, the other named upcoming film is Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Let's hope we see more of Carol Danvers across the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Captain Marvel is not Larson's first foray into the world of superheroes. Back in 2010 she played Envy Adams in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World which is available here.
