9-year-old Jayline Brandao of Brockton, Massachusetts has been hailed as a hero after rescuing her parents from carbon monoxide poisoning.
LiveNow from FOX reported on the brave young girl coming to her family's rescue.
Following a recent Nor'easter, Jayline and her family had been without power in their house for three days.
This resulted in Jayline's mother, Marcelina, borrowing a generator, which they set up in the back of their house.
The family had used the generator for barely ten minutes, when they decided to unplug the machine, and bring it inside of their home.
But bringing it inside the house proved to be a dangerous, nearly fatal mistake, as Marcelina told Boston 25 News.
"I thought it was just a headache, then 2-3 minutes, I didn't feel anything after that."
The machine released a potentially lethal amount of carbon monoxide into their home.
Jayline was woken by her father's screams.
"I heard my dad screaming and say my mom passed out."
Seeing her father was also being sidelined by the carbon monoxide, Jayline took her father's phone, intending to dial 911, only to discover his phone was locked.
But staying calm under pressure, Jayline had the fortitude to unlock her father's phone using his face allowing her to reach 911.
As the first responders made their way to her home, Jayline got her seven-year-old sister out of the house to safety and called their next door neighbors for help.
The first responders arrived just in time, to rescue Jayline's parents, after detecting carbon monoxide levels of one thousand parts per million inside the house.
The Consumer Product Safety commission reports even levels as low as 150 parts per million can be fatal.
Marcelina eventually woke up in the ambulance on the way to the hospital, and both she and her husband are now doing fine.
Marcelina told CNN she was in awe of her daughter's fast thinking and bravery.
"She was so smart, that was very scary."
"If it wasn't [for] her to call right away I don't know what would have happened."
People took to Twitter to commend her for her courage as Jayline's story gained more attention.
