Captain Marvel has been talked up as the strongest character revealed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far. To portray that onscreen, Brie Larson had to undergo some intense training.

In an interview with the LA Times, Larson opens up about the process.

"Carol is a trained warrior and I can barely walk in a straight line. So for me to get to the point where I can do all of the things that were required of me meant really putting myself to the test and dedicating a lot of hours to it."

Getting to that point required a lot of training. The nine month regimen began with daily 90-minute workouts. By the end of it, she was doing two-hour workouts twice a day.

"There were moments where I cried, there were moments where I thought it was too hard, where I got pushed beyond my comfort zone, but those were ultimately my favorite moments. At the time you're like, 'Why is this happening to me?' And then afterwards you feel so proud of yourself."

It's a very impressive transformation.

Larson says her body was "pure muscle" by the end of the training, but she also understands everything else that went into the work.

"I do think it's important to say that it took a nutritionist, two different trainers, a paleo meal delivery service, a lot of mozzarella sticks and a lot of sleep and water."

In addition to her physical exercise, Larson ensured she captured the right personality balance of an F-15 fighter pilot. To portray her character accurately, she visited the Nellis Air Force Base.

She was able to spend time with the fighter pilots and ensure she got details just right.

Brig. Gen. Jeannie Leavitt, an aviation pioneer, said of Larson,

"We showed her all types of things. She just wanted to understand the character to get an idea of what it is like for the real-world female fighter pilots."

It seems Larson's efforts are paying off as people are excited for this film purely from the trailers.

Captain Marvel is about Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot. Through an accident with an alien race called the Kree, she gains amazing super powers and must stop an invasion from the sinister Skrulls.

The movie is set to premiere on March 8th in the US. It stars Brie Larson and Jude Law, and brings back Marvel favorites Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg as agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
