MAGA fans are angry after a video of Attorney General Pam Bondi telling President Donald Trump about Florida's plan to implement a "gun violence restraining order" resurfaced.
Bondi, a longtime close Trump ally, served as Floridaās attorney general when the 2018 Parkland school shooting claimed the lives of 17 students and staff. Following the tragedy, she implemented a ban on gun sales to individuals under 21 and introduced a red flag law, enabling law enforcement to request a judgeās approval to temporarily remove firearms from those considered a danger to themselves or others.
At the time, Trump, then in his first administration, invited Bondi to the White House to discuss potential solutions and Bondi said:
āIāve had my solicitor general on it for three days now working on it. Weāve been rewriting it, and weāre going to bring in something called the gun violence restraining order. ... What we want to do is let law enforcement come in and take the guns."
"Without being adjudicated, they are a danger to themselves ... We also have to give the mentally ill due process. What we're going to do is take the guns when they're taken into custody or into the hospital and then when they're released in 24 hours or 72 hours to determine whether they should give those guns back."
"Or they can go to a judge and say, "Your honor, please keep these guns. We feel this person is still a danger to themselves or others."

In a follow-up interview with Fox News, she went further:
"$450 million will go to securing our school, making our schools a much safer place physically. The buildings, infrastructure, making them stronger, making the door secure, bulletproof windows. Also, adding school resource officers."
"We have schools that donāt even have school resource officers per school, so now for every 1,000 students, there will be at least one resource school officer armed on campus. Not only that, we are raising the age to buy a rifle to 21, which is consistent with buying a handgun in the state of Florida."
"Also, gun violence restraining order, which is something that I have been working on a detailed to ensure its constitutionality and due process."
The clip quickly went viral on X:
And MAGA was not happy.
Bondiās actions created distrust among hardline Second Amendment supporters and organizations such as the National Rifle Association (NRA), Gun Owners of America, and the National Association of Gun Rights, all of whom argue that her measures violate their rights.
Despite warnings from gun rights organizations ahead of her Senate confirmation hearing, Republican senators avoided questioning Bondi on gun control or her policies following the Parkland shooting.
The only question on firearms came from California Democratic Senator Alex Padilla, who asked if she would support measures like universal background checks and a national red flag law. Bondi replied, āI would be glad to meet with you and review any legislation that you have, senator.ā Padilla ultimately voted against advancing her nomination to the full Senate.
