Looks are great, but Mackey is all about the work.

If you are going to be compared to someone you could do a lot worse than Australian actress Margot Robbie, but it seems rising star Emma Mackey just wants to be herself.

When Netflix's new series Sex Education premiered on January 11th it didn't take fans long to notice that Emma Mackey, who plays Maeve Wiley on the show bears a striking resemblance to fellow Australian actress Margot Robbie. In fact it was all many of them could talk about.

As far as comparisons go Emma says she's flattered to be likened to the Academy Award nominated I, Tonya actress. but looks are not everything according to Mackey.

"I mean it's great, I'll take it," Mackey told PinkNews.

"But I think Margot Robbie is, first and foremost, a very brilliant actress, actor."

With the success of the new series however Emma says she's hoping to be recognized for more than just her looks.

"I hope that people will see past the physical aspects of my person and focus on my job as opposed to my looks, if that's okay with you all."

And who can blame her? But there's no denying the pair do look very similar.

Perhaps a little too similar.

And it looks like fans aren't going to be happy until the two appear on screen together.

But judging by the reaction to Sex Education and Mackey's performance so far she won't have any trouble distinguishing herself from Robbie.

According to Netflix the series has been an instant success.

Praised for its LGBTQ+ representation the show has already received more than 40 million views on the streaming service, with Mackey's character Maeve being the undeniable fan favorite.

Before you know it people could be saying Margot Robbie looks like her.
