The Democratic Rep. called the recent Supreme Court ruling giving Trump immunity an 'assault on American democracy'—and she's planning on filing articles of impeachment against the conservative justices.

Democratic New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced her plan to file articles of impeachment in the wake of the Supreme Court's conservative majority granting former Republican President Donald Trump partial criminal immunity for his alleged attempts to overturn his 2020 election loss.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor was joined by fellow liberals, Justices Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson, in dissenting in Monday's historic ruling, which Sotomayor stated made a "mockery" of the principle that "no man is above the law.”

She went viral for her fiery dissent, in which she expressed "fear for our democracy."

Following the decision, AOC wrote an impassioned post on X (formerly Twitter), writing:

"The Supreme Court has become consumed by a corruption crisis beyond its control."

She continued:

"Today’s ruling represents an assault on American democracy. It is up to Congress to defend our nation from this authoritarian capture."

The NY Congresswoman concluded the post, saying:

"I intend on filing articles of impeachment upon our return."

X users backed AOC's declaration en masse.

Users also pointed to the fact that the future of our democracy was at stake and that the 2024 election was more crucial than ever to vote.

AOC did not name the Justice or Justices whom she intends to target for impeachment, but one suspects Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, who by all rights should have recused themselves from the case, are among them.
