Film Buffs Share Their All-Time Favorite Movie Endings

Every now and then, I pop in my copy of The Fly (1986) and go on an emotional roller coaster. You see, the film–assuming you have not seen it–is not just a horror tale. Sure, there's plenty of body horror. But there's an emotional resonance as well and Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis sell the hell out of it.

That ending? Oh my... it's devastating. Yes, it hits me right in the soul. And it's thankfully not the only film out there that manages to land the ending!

People told us all about their favorites after Redditor Krmsyn asked the online community,

"Movie buffs of Reddit, what are the greatest last 10 minutes of any movie in your opinion?"

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (1968)

"The standoff in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Everything about that scene, from the cinematography, the score, to the tension is sheer perfection."

StigasaurusRex

An excellent choice! That music! It's hypnotic.

Se7en (1995)

"Se7en is one that comes to mind. Granted it may be more like 20 mins but that ending still messes me up."

HalfChineseJesus

"WHAT'S IN THE BOX?"

Probably one of the most unsettling movie moments of the 1990s.

The Prestige (2006)

"The Prestige. What a roller coaster that ending is!"

[deleted]

It is indeed! Probably the most underrated Christopher Nolan film, assuming you don't count the rather underseen Following (1998).

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2003)

"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The tapes are absolutely tearjerking. 'What a loss to spend that much time with someone, only to find out that she's a stranger.”"

Jonboy326

Ouch. This one still hurts. It's beautiful.

Prisoners (2013)

"Prisoners. What a film, what an ending."

daz101224

I second this one. What a film. It's probably one of the creepiest films to come out in the last decade.

"The Mist. That ending is sudden and brutal."

flicthelanding

I love this film and love the ending. It's horrifying.

Whiplash (2014)

"I just saw Whiplash for the 1st time. The last scene was absolutely incredible."

Krmsyn

Whiplash will... give you whiplash, for lack of a better word. Quite the film and quite the ending.

The Truman Show (1998)

"The Truman Show. I love that movie so much."

Luenrd

This is a pretty flawless film. I find it funny, sad, creepy, unnerving... so many feelings all at once. And that ending is the icing on the cake.

The Last of the Mohicans (1992)

"The Last Of The Mohicans. The music, the cinematography, the narrative. It all comes together rather nicely."

HullabalooWho

I feel like this is a rather underrated film these days. Madeleine Stowe and Daniel Day Lewis work movie magic.

The Green Mile (1999)

"The Green Mile. God I just rewatched that for the first time in decades the other night and I was full on snot-down-the-face ugly crying at the end there."

TobiasAtwood

I also rewatched this recently! It's on Netflix, for those of you who wish to revisit it. It's splendid.

There are few feelings that are as pleasurable as seeing a good film. And then when that same film manages to knock the ending out of the park? Even better.
