Twitter Is Turning Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Coat Into Meme Gold

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's working class background was a big part of what many voters connected with during her campaign.

But as the newly elected representative begins her congressional orientation it seems that she might not be "poor enough" for some in conservative pundits.

This week Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez began breaking open the dusty doors of Congress, sharing a behind-the scenes look at her congressional orientation via her Instagram Stories.

Along with some amazing moments Ocasio-Cortez has also been sharing some of the struggles of being a freshman representative, including being mistaken as an intern and figuring out how she is going to afford an apartment in Washington D.C..

Some conservative media personalities seem to think that Ocasio-Cortez isn't struggling enough.

On Thursday, reporter Eddie Scarry from the conservative Washington Examiner tweeted a picture of Ocasio-Cortez's back with the caption:

"Hill staffer sent me this pic of Ocasio-Cortez they took just now. I'll tell you something: that jacket and coat don't look like a girl who struggles."

After getting slammed on Twitter Scarry deleted the post.

He quickly tried to backtrack, claiming the tweet was intended as a compliment rather than the snarky criticism it was.

No one seemed to buy the explanation though and and Twitter fired back, spinning the ridiculous criticism into meme gold.

From the fiercely fashionable...

...to the completely outrageous.

Twitter found an endless number of ways keep the joke going.

And the memes just kept on coming.

Although Twitter managed to completely shut down the swipe at Ocasio-Cortez's wardrobe, it was not the only criticism aimed at her this week. At every turn Ocasio-Cortez's struggles were challenged for being a crafted narrative, part of a "faux" working class persona.

But the reactions from those who fear change in Washington don't seem like they'll stop the Congressperson-elect anytime soon.
