Alanis Morissette Says She Didn't Perform At Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Due To 'Anti-Woman' Music Industry

The 'Jagged Little Pill' singer took to her Instagram Story to clear up any 'mis-informed rumblings' about why she pulled out of a performance honoring Carly Simon.

On Saturday night at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2022 induction ceremony, Olivia Rodrigo belted HoF inductee Carly Simon's hit You're So Vain. Noticeably absent however was Alanis Morissette who was slated to join Rodrigo for the cover.

Rather than leave the reason for her absence to speculation, Morissette posted an explanation to her Instagram story.

It began:

"There are some mis-informed rumblings about my not performing at The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony this past weekend."
"Firstly, I have to say how much I adore Carly Simon and Olivia Rodrigo and Dolly Parton and Janet Jackson and Pat Benetar and Sheryl Crow and Pink and Brandi Carlile and Sara Bareilles - and all the amazing people and artists who were there."

She continued:

"I have spent decades in an industry that is rife with an overarching anti-woman sentiment and have tolerated a lot of condescension and disrespectfulness, reduction, dismissiveness, contract-breaching, unsupportiveness, exploitation and psychological violence (and more) throughout my career."
"I tolerated it because nothing would stop me from connecting with those whom I cared about and resonated with. I live to serve and connect with people and so over the years I sucked it up on more occasions than I can count in order to do so."
"It's hard not to be affected in any industry around the world, but Hollywood has been notorious for its disrespect of the feminine in all of us."

Morissette concluded her post:

"Thankfully, I am at a point in my life where there is no need for me to spend time in an environment that reduces women."
"I have had countless incredible experiences with production teams with all genders throughout my life. So many, and so fun."
"There is nothing better than a team of diverse people coming together with one mission. I'll continue to show up in those environments with bells on. :)"
"Voting time! I love you, alanis."

Many agreed with Morissette's statements and supported her decision.

Some, however, found it a bit... ironic as many women were being honored this year.

And, as always, others just wanted more details.

Along with Simon, Pat Benetar and Neil Giraldo, Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Judas Priest, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Harry Belafonte, Elizabeth Cotten, Allen Grubman, Jimmy Iovine, and Sylvia Robinson were also inducted into this year's Hall of Fame.

The ceremony will air on November 19 on HBO.

Duolingo Has Hilarious Reaction To TikTok Users Learning Mandarin To Join Chinese App

Duolingo shaded social media users when the language app saw a spike in TikTok users' sudden interest in learning Mandarin to maximize their engagement on RedNote, a newer short-form video app from China natively known as Xiaohongshu.

The mass exodus to RedNote, China's answer to Instagram, comes in advance of the potential ban of TikTok in the U.S. prompted by increased national security concerns about users' data being compromised and vulnerable to cyber-attacks.

Coca-Cola Blasted After Honoring Trump With Personalized Diet Coke Bottle For His Inauguration

The Coca-Cola company was widely criticized after James Quincey, its Chairman and CEO, presented President-elect Donald Trump with a Diet Coke bottle commemorating his upcoming inauguration.

The label on the bottle displayed Trump’s name, the date of his anticipated second inauguration, and an image of the White House. Trump is known to be a big fan of Diet Coke—he reportedly drinks 12 bottles per day—and he had an Oval Office button that aided in the delivery of the soda during his first presidency.
