Georgia Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene sparked backlash after claiming former Illinois Republican Representative Adam Kinzinger "came out of the closet" by endorsing President Joe Biden in November's election.
Kinzinger endorsed Biden ahead of last night's presidential debate between Biden and former President Donald Trump, noting that "while I certainly don’t agree with President Biden on everything, and I never thought I’d be endorsing a Democrat for president, I know that he will always protect the very thing that makes America the best country in the world: our democracy."
The announcement angered Greene, whom Kinzinger has previously called out for her commitment to election denialism and numerous conspiracy theories.
Writing on X, formerly Twitter, Greene shared an announcement of Kinzinger's endorsement and wrote:
“Oh look, Kinzinger finally came out of the closet. As usual, we knew all along, so not a surprise and none of us care.”

Though her comment wasn’t about sexuality, Greene likely thought she was being witty by saying Kinzinger was “finally … out of the closet”—presumably as a secret Democrat—and during Pride Month, no less.
However, people didn't take kindly to it, and Greene faced swift criticism for her remarks.
Kinzinger's endorsement of Biden did not come without harsh words for Trump, whom he referred to as a “direct threat to every fundamental American value.”
He added:
"He doesn’t care about our country. He doesn’t care about you. He only cares about himself, and he will hurt anyone or anything in pursuit of power.”
Kinzinger last week appeared at a Biden campaign news conference at the Georgia Capitol alongside former Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan, a Republican, and former police officer Harry Dunn, who was among the many officers who defended the U.S. Capitol during the insurrection of January 6, 2021. Both men are Biden supporters.
Kinzinger urged swing states to "be ready and be prepared" for potential election meddling or violence if Trump loses in November, stating, "the forces of Donald Trump have already had a dry run.”
